Lancaster Archery Foundation Helps Pennsylvania Program Expand its Archery Equipment Base

A young Pennsylvania archery program will expand its equipment offerings thanks to a grant from Lancaster Archery Foundation.

This is My Quest of Wellsboro, Pa., received a $1,000 grant from the foundation to buy some compound archery gear that will allow it to cater to older archers.

The program has 62 youth members from across northcentral Pennsylvania, who have been competing at archery tournaments for two years.

In addition to coaching these kids, This is My Quest also offers outdoor programming to young adults in the region.

“We will be running them through a variety of outdoor education courses but also our archery program,” the group’s organizers wrote on their grant application to the foundation.

“This means we will need equipment for older youth and young adults and could use a hand at purchasing this equipment. The benefit of equipping our young adults is that we can carry this equipment over to our…camp which is our camp of 100 women new to the outdoors that come to Tioga County, Pennsylvania, to spend the weekend at a primitive camp with our founder, Rose Anna Moore, to learn skills and build a comfort level in the outdoors. This camp happens in July and the ages at this camp last year ranged from 5 to 68 year old.”

Getting bows in the hands of people who are interested in archery, but who might never have tried it, is critical to growing the sport, said Rob Kaufhold, president of the Lancaster Archery Foundation Board of Directors.

“You don’t know who might fall in love with archery if they’ve never tried it,” he said. “Introducing people to archery is key to watching it flourish in the future.”

Based in Lancaster, Pa., the Lancaster Archery Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to expand, develop and promote 3D and target archery to help people improve their confidence, discipline and leadership skills through participation in competitive archery.
