Lancaster Archery Foundation Helps Kansas 4-H Upgrade its Gear

A Kansas 4-H club is headed for some equipment upgrades thanks to a grant from the Lancaster Archery Foundation.

The Thomas County 4-H received $1,000 from the foundation to replace its target mats, recurve bows, 3-D targets and other gear it uses for its archery program.

Based in Gem, Kansas, the club has members ranging in age from 8-17. They mainly shoot outdoors at FITA and 3-D targets.

A goal of the club organizers is to expand the number of archery participants.

“We want to bring new people into the sport of archery,” club officials wrote on their grant application. “Teaching the to safely handle, maintain and shoot different types of bows in a safe and fun environment, with the hope that they will continue in the sport and pass it on to future generations.”

That’s a core mission of the Lancaster Archery Foundation.

“Four-H is one of the key pathways to introducing kids to archery,” said Rob Kaufhold, president of the foundation’s board of directors. “They might not have an archery pro shop near them, but they’ve got 4-H.

“Anything we can do to help a 4-H program attract new kids to archery is a win-win for everyone.”

Based in Lancaster, Pa., the Lancaster Archery Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to expand, develop and promote 3D and target archery to help people improve their confidence, discipline and leadership skills through participation in competitive archery.
